On September 14-15th, Saint Petersburg hosted a major industry event – the 3rd Federal IT Forum of Russia "Smart Oil & Gas: Digital Transformation of the Industry".

The Forum, organized by ComNews Group in partnership with ITSK Ltd., was held in a unique venue – the historical building of the City Telegraph Administration.

An exhibition which was part of the IT Forum brought together: CommScope, Raisecom, Polymedia, Visiology, RDP.RU, Veeam, CompTek, Ixia Solutions Group (Keysight Technologies), Automatika-Service (Technological industrial automation fleet of Gazprom Neft); the "Digital Transormation" zone featured new solutions from Kaspersky Lab, ITSK, EleSy and NEOLANT Group.

Besides, the IT Forum was endorsed by the International Academy of Communications, Association of Professional Accountants, Association of Business Process Management Professionals, Astra Association, IoT Association, National Association of Industrial Internet Market, Sozvezdye Association of Oil and Gas Suppliers, ARPP "Domestic Software", Information and Computer Technologies Industry Association (APKIT), Association of Motorway Services, Retail, and Tourism.

Konstantin Kravchenko, Head of IT, Automation and Telecommunication in Gazprom Neft, delivered an opening speech to the gathering: "This is becoming mainstream, and digitalization is penetrating into the oil & gas industry at a solid pace". Kravchenko emphasized that digitalization is not only about IT, it means a change in business model and a new digital technological platform. "We are looking forward to the first Russian technological platform, so far we have only received offers from foreign vendors", he added.

In what followed, the possible scenarios of digital transformation in the Russian oil & gas sector were outlined by industry visionaries: Martin Bleider, Business Development Director of Industrie 4.0 Maturity Center; Andrey Suvorov, Head of Critical Infrastructure Protection of Kaspersky Lab; Artyom Kozlovsky, Partner and Head of Oil & Gas practice in EY CIS; Mikhail Yakobovsky, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Deputy Director for Academic Affairs of the Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics.

A panel discussion dedicated to digital transformation of the oil & gas industry looked into the topical issues including the corporations' plans for business transformation, Industrial IoT, IT security, and imports substitution. Panelists included: Konstantin Kravchenko, Head of IT, Automation and Telecommunication in Gazprom Neft; Rinat Gimranov, Surgutneftegaz' Head of IT; Vyacheslav Berzin, Head of Metrology, Automation, Standardization and IT of Zarubezhneft; Alexander Podolskiy, Lukoil's Head of IT Support.

The next session was dedicated to digital transformation and adaptation of Industry 4.0. approaches to the needs of the oil & gas industry within the Russian system. Speakers at this session included: Pavel Gontarev, Executive Director SAP CIS, Tibor Bakso, Director for industrial solutions in the oil & gas industry, Microsoft, Mikhail Kosov, Business Development Director, ProSoft, Alexey Dryabin, Sales Representative for consulting services, Hewlett Packard Enterprise in Russia, Shai Monzon, IT@Intel Manufacturing Domain Lead, Roman Prytkov, Systems engineer, Veeam Russia and CIS, Evgeny Yudovin, Sales Director, Orange Business Services.

The session after lunch was dedicated to predictive management techniques in Upstream and Downstream: IIoT, cognitive technologies and AI elements. Speakers included: Artyom Semenikhin, Industrial Research Solutions Manager, IBM; Igor Girkin, IoT Technology Adviser at Cisco; Andrey Kosenko, Senior consultant for business strategy, VMware Inc.; Nikolay Zylyaev, General Director of Representation in Russia and CIS, Ixia Solutions Group, Keysight Technologies.

The last session "When and how will oil and gas companies transform into Real-Time Enterprise?" was held in the foresight format. The discussion brought together: Sergey Adamenko, Advisor to President and Board Chairman of Sberbank; Maria Vozhegova, Vice President and Director General of Gartner Inc.; Anton Ershov, Head of Strategy Resources practice, Accenture Moscow; Rafail Miftakhov, Deloitte's Director of Consulting; Maxim Tambiev, Country Manager in Russia, Forrester Research; Robert Farish, Vice President and Regional Managing Director, IDC Russia and CIS; and Tagir Yapparov, Chairman of the Board, I.T.Group.

The first day of the IT forum concluded with a gala awards ceremony for winners of the 9th contest "Best IT Projects for Oil & Gas Industry".

The program of the second day of the IT Forum Smart Oil & Gas: Digital Transformation of Oil & Gas Industry was busy as well, featuring two parallel sessions.

Thus, session 4 was dedicated to corporate information systems, finding new unorthodox solutions and approaches. The main topic of the first special session was new telecommunication technologies (clouds, IoT and 5G) serving the needs of oil & gas companies. This session featured presentations from: Oleg Semanov, CTO, Noyabrskneftegazsvyaz; Pavel Ivanchenko, Head of M2M/IoT products, MegaFon; Dr. Kai Grunert, Managing Partner – Director of European activities, Detecon International GmbH; Roman Vasilyev, Head of Commercial Relations, SUPERTEL; Ilya Gudenko, Head of Department of Marketing and Sales, Transtelecom; Sergey Nikulin, Director General RDP.RU; Andrey Kolupov, Deputy Director General, Control IT; Vladimir Rubanov, Managing Director, Rosplatforma; Ruslan Gulevich, Director General, Noyabrskneftegazsvyaz.

In the fifth session, the participants explored IT as a tool to boost Upstream efficiency. The following speakers shared their expertise: Alexander Zinchenko, DQ Technical analyst, Salym Petroleum Development N.V.; Rinald Khamidullin, Director General, ITSK; Julia Babkina, Head of Customers Directorate, Gazprom Space Systems; Leonid Tikhomirov, Director, ITPS Group; Kirill Poroshin, Oil and Gas Sales Director, ER-Telecom Holding; Evgeny Shatilov, Head of land use and surveying, RN-Yuganskneftegaz; Tatiana Serykh, Head of Upstream practice, Accenture Moscow; Andrey Bochkov, Deputy Director General for Exploration Activities and Resource Base Development, Gazpromneft Research and Development Centre.

The second special session was dedicated to practical roll-out examples on the way toward a digital gas station of the future. Speakers of this session included: Alexander Fedin, Director General of IT Smart; Artem Skvortsov, Co-founder and Development Director of SKON Group; Anton Denisenko, Systems architect, IBM Russia and CIS; Bari Murtazin, Consultant for Business Solutions SAP CIS; Tibor Bakso, Director for industrial solutions in the oil & gas industry, Microsoft.

Practical examples of end-to-end IT integration in a digital gas station were presented by speakers of the sixth session, including: Alexander Rubshtein, Director of Development Department, Automatika-Service; Valery Cherepanov, Director for Development, IT-SERVICE; Andrey Ivanov, Director EMEIA Oil and Gas Advisory Centre EY; Alexander Burgardt, Head of EAM Directorate, Galaktika Corporation; Mikhail Mescheryakov, Head of Digital Solutions, General Electric International Inc. in Russia; Alexander Sokolov, Director of Oil and Chemistry segment, IBS and Vyacheslav Sundukov, Deputy Director General for IT, Afipsky NPZ (refinery).

The third special session which sparked an especially keen interest in the audience was dedicated to "killer-robots" and the issues with professions where humans are being replaced by robots, bots and automated systems. The 3rd Oil and Gas IT Forum was the largest in the history of this event – it was attended by more than 500 delegates from all around the world. The audience distinguished top professional level of the event organization and business and entertainment programmes meeting the highest standards.
